Mission Statement
The Lake Water Quality Committee (LWQC) is dedicated to protecting and enhancing Crystal Lake's water quality and shoreline health. Through consistent monitoring, research, and community engagement, we assess lake conditions, identify risks, and recommend science-based solutions. We aim to foster environmental stewardship and sustainable lake management, ensuring Crystal Lake remains a vibrant and cherished resource for generations to come.

Background
For generations, Crystal Lake has been a cherished summer destination for families and visitors who value its natural beauty. Over the decades, many dedicated individuals took important steps to monitor the lake’s water quality and water levels. While a formal, continuous monitoring program was not in place, early volunteers made significant contributions that were truly groundbreaking for their time.
Efforts such as those by the Crystal Lake Joint Municipal Committee in the 1980s, the Stewards of Crystal Lake in the early 2000s, and the work of individuals like Brad Terras and Don Rongve helped lay a strong foundation for ongoing stewardship. Their commitment led to the commissioning of several important lake studies, which continue to serve as invaluable sources of baseline data and historical insight. These initiatives were the result of the care and foresight of concerned residents who recognized the importance of protecting Crystal Lake for future generations.
Building on this legacy, the Crystal Lake Water Quality Committee (LWQC) was formed to continue and expand this important work. The LWQC focuses on consistent monitoring, preservation, and improvement of the lake’s water quality and shoreline conditions. Its mission is to protect and sustain Crystal Lake for the enjoyment and benefit of both current users and those to come.
The founding members—Tom Kindred (committee leader), Don Rongve, Brad Tokaruk, and Tim Harrison—have been joined more recently by Curtis Loucks. The committee remains committed to honoring the work of past stewards while welcoming new members, embracing fresh ideas, maintaining accurate data, and ensuring the ongoing care of Crystal Lake for years to come.
